The "old bank seal" designation distinguishes this series from the updated P#450 issues that followed Colombia's 1999 institutional rebranding, when Banco de la República adopted a modernized seal. Both types circulated concurrently for a period, creating genuine confusion at point of transaction. The 5,000 Peso denomination was introduced in 1990 and printed in relatively modest quantities across its lifespan — 12,175,000 for this specific run is not a large figure for a mid-denomination note in active daily use.
Dual-printing between De La Rue in London and the Bogotá imprint facility was standard for the series, with intaglio work handled offshore and finishing completed domestically.
