Bolivia's hyperinflationary spiral of the early 1980s was among the most severe in Latin American history, and this denomination is a direct artifact of that collapse. The 5,000 Pesos Bolivianos, unthinkable as everyday currency just years earlier, had become routine pocket change by 1982. Within two years, the government was issuing notes of 1,000,000 Pesos Bolivianos — overstamped on existing stock rather than newly printed, simply because the presses couldn't keep up.

ABNC's involvement persisted through the chaos, though later emergency issues were handled domestically. The series was rendered obsolete by the 1987 introduction of the Boliviano, converting at 1,000,000 to one.
