The 5000 Ouguiya was the highest denomination in Mauritanian circulation when this series was current, reflecting the country's persistently high nominal price levels rather than any monetary instability — the Ouguiya has been a relatively stable currency since its introduction in 1973, when Mauritania broke from the West African CFA franc zone. G&D's Leipzig facility has handled Mauritanian contracts across multiple series, making this a long-standing production relationship rather than a one-off tender.
P#15 carries only a watermark and security thread, a notably spare security specification for a high-denomination note issued in 2009.
