| Obverse description | Brown letterpress on cream paper with an elaborate geometric border. The denomination 'Fünftausend Mark' is rendered in large Gothic blackletter script dominating the centre, preceded by the legend 'GUTSCHEIN ÜBER' at the top within a rectangular frame headed 'STADT KÖLN 1923'. A red official municipal seal is applied at lower left, alongside a facsimile signature of the Oberbürgermeister (Konrad Adenauer), with a dated text block reading 'Köln, den 1.
