Lebanon's early 1990s notes were issued against a backdrop of post-civil-war monetary reconstruction — the lira had collapsed through the late 1980s, losing the vast majority of its value, and the 5000 livre denomination was itself a product of that hyperinflationary period. BA International, the successor identity of the British American Bank Note Company, handled the print run from its Canadian facilities; the firm was one of the few security printers outside Europe regularly contracted by Middle Eastern central banks during this period.
The barcode serial number is the detail worth noting — relatively uncommon on circulating issues of this vintage, it reflects Banque du Liban's early adoption of machine-readable verification at a time when most regional issuers had not yet moved in that direction.
