Obverse description Central vignette in intaglio of two allegorical female figures seated facing one another before a decorative throne-like composition, rendered in olive-green and brown tones. The design is framed by elaborate guilloche borders interspersed with oak leaf and grape vine ornamentation, with two large blank watermark ovals at left and right. The bank name 'BANCA D'ITALIA' and denomination 'LIRE CINQUEMILA' appear in bold letterpress across the upper centre, with the decree date and signature lines for the Governor and Cashier printed below.
