Issued to mark the conclusion of the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party's first term following the 2010 elections — elections widely condemned as fraudulent by international observers — this coin occupies an awkward position in modern Burmese numismatic history. The USDP government it commemorates was already a lame duck when the coin was struck; Aung San Suu Kyi's NLD had won the November 2015 general election in a landslide, effectively repudiating the administration being celebrated in silver.
