| Opmerkingen |
Myanmar's currency history through the late 1980s and 1990s was badly damaged by the military government's habit of demonetizing large denominations without compensation — the 1987 cancellation of 25, 35, and 75 kyat notes wiped out personal savings overnight and directly triggered the 1988 pro-democracy uprisings. The 5000 kyat note, when it eventually appeared, was itself a signal of how far inflation had eroded purchasing power since the junta's monetary misadventures.
For a note of this face value, the security specification is notably lean — watermark only, with no metallic thread or color-shifting ink.
