Additional information

Issued in 2000 to mark the Queen Mother's centenary year, this is one of dozens of gold commemoratives Zambia produced through the late 1990s and early 2000s under licensing arrangements with overseas distributors — pieces minted primarily for the collector market rather than any domestic monetary purpose. The Zambian kwacha denomination is nominal; these were never intended to circulate.

The Queen Mother turned 100 on 4 August 2000, the occasion prompting commemorative issues from numerous Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth nations alike. KM#83 sits in a crowded field of similar output from that year.
