| Obverse description | The Zambian coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting two human supporters flanking a vertically striped shield surmounted by an African fish eagle with outstretched wings, and a scroll below bearing the national motto. The issue date 1999 is split to either side of the arms in the mid-field. The upper legend reads BANK OF ZAMBIA in an arc, while the lower legend reads 5000 KWACHA, with the purity mark 999 appearing in the exergual area beneath the shield. |

Zambia's late-1990s silver issues were produced almost entirely for the collector and bullion export market — the kwacha had lost so much purchasing power through the preceding decade of copper price collapse and IMF structural adjustment that a 5000 kwacha face value was essentially theatrical. The coin never circulated.
