Burundi's 2022 reissue of the 5000 Franc denomination continues a series that has seen relatively little design evolution since the note was substantially reworked in the mid-2000s. Oberthur Fiduciaire, now part of the IDEMIA group following the 2018 acquisition, handled the printing — one of France's two dominant security print houses alongside De La Rue's former French operations.
The "Grey" suffix in the catalog designation distinguishes this from earlier color variants in the P#58 series. Burundi's franc has faced sustained inflationary pressure; by the time this note was issued, 5000 francs represented roughly $2.50 USD at the official rate.
