Copernicus published De revolutionibus orbium coelestium in 1543, the year of his death, having reportedly received the first printed copy only hours before he died. Burkina Faso has no particular connection to Copernicus or Polish scientific history — this is one of a sprawling series of large-format silver issues struck under licensing arrangements common among West African CFA franc states, where the nominal issuing authority bears little relationship to the coin's actual commercial purpose.
The 311-gram specification places it at exactly 10 troy ounces, the bullion benchmark that drives the collector market for which these pieces are unambiguously produced.
