Opmerkingen

Allied Military Currency for France was produced in the United States in 1944 in preparation for the post-D-Day occupation administration. The 5000-franc denomination was the highest in the AMC franc series, and it was never actually released into circulation — de Gaulle's Provisional Government successfully pressured the Allies to abandon the AMC program in France, viewing the currency as an infringement on French sovereignty and an echo of the occupation scrip the Germans had forced on the country.

Forbes Lithograph in Boston handled production of this series under U.S. War Department contract. Unissued stock was retained rather than destroyed, which is why examples survive today in varying quantities across the denominations.
