Guinea's 1998 series was printed during a period of relative monetary stabilization following the chronic inflation that had plagued the franc guinéen since its reintroduction in 1985. Thomas De La Rue handled the printing, as they did for much of francophone West Africa's currency during this period — a relationship born partly of French colonial-era printing infrastructure and partly of De La Rue's aggressive post-independence contracts across the continent.
The security package is modest for a high-denomination note: watermark and a single security thread, with no fluorescent inks or color-shifting elements known to the series.
