The Comoros had no central bank of its own until 1981 — prior to that, the Institut d'Émission des Comores handled note issue, itself a transitional body created after independence in 1975. The Banque Centrale des Comores inherited both the institution and its French printing relationship, with the Banque de France continuing to supply notes throughout this series' long run.
The two signature combinations reflect an administrative shift mid-series: the earlier "Directeur Général" title was replaced by "Gouverneur" as the bank's statutes were revised, a change more significant to institutional historians than to those who spent the notes.
