The Institut d'Émission d'Outre-Mer was a Paris-based institution created in 1966 to manage currency for French overseas territories in the Pacific — New Caledonia, French Polynesia, and Wallis and Futuna — after those functions were separated from the Institut d'Émission des Départements d'Outre-Mer. The IEOM held a monopoly on note issuance across all three territories despite their considerable geographic dispersal and distinct economic profiles, which meant a single series had to function across island groups separated by thousands of kilometres.
Printed by the Banque de France across a fourteen-year span, the series shows only minor sequential variation — collectors tracking prefix and signature combinations will find more distinctions than the face values suggest.
