Cameroun's 1961 series predates the formation of the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale, which would later absorb monetary functions across the region. These notes were issued in the brief window when Cameroun operated its own central bank following independence in 1960 — an arrangement that lasted only a few years before the franc CFA zone's institutional consolidation rendered them obsolete.
Banque de France printing contracts with former French territories during this period were standard practice, with Paris retaining production control long after political independence had been granted.
