The Hercules type has anchored French coinage iconography since the Revolutionary period, but the 5000-euro bullion series marked the Monnaie de Paris's first systematic large-format gold issue aimed squarely at the investment market rather than the collector. The 75-gram specification was a deliberate commercial decision, positioning the coin between the one-ounce and kilogram tiers then dominating European sovereign bullion offerings.
