| Reverse description | The reverse presents a modernized interpretation of Augustin Dupré's iconic Hercules composition, here reinterpreted by engraver J. Jimenez. The nude figure of Hercules stands frontally in the center, wearing the leontè (Nemean lion's skin, his traditional attribute), and unites two allegorical female figures: Liberty, standing to his left, and Equality, standing to his right and holding a level. A stylized representation of the French tricolor flag appears in the background field behind the group. The peripheral legend 'LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ' encircles the design, and the date appears in the lower field. |
