Obverse description The Armenian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a spread eagle with wings displayed, supporting a heraldic shield quartered with the emblems of historic Armenian dynasties, flanked by a lion and an eagle as supporters, with a sword and a chain below. The denomination '5000' appears prominently in large numerals beneath the arms, followed by 'ԴՐԱՄ' (Dram) in Armenian script, and the date '1999' in the lower exergue. Two asterisks flank the date at the base. The circular legend in Armenian script reads 'ՀԱՅԱՍՏԱՆԻ ՀԱՆՐԱՊԵՏՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ' (Republic of Armenia), arranged around the upper periphery of the deeply mirrored proof field.
