Reverse description The featured letter of the Armenian alphabet, Յ (Yiwn), is rendered in large, stylised form at the centre of the field, with ornamental filigree detailing visible on its lower portion. The entire Armenian alphabet is inscribed in a continuous circular legend surrounding the central letter, running along the full periphery of the coin. A small decorative asterisk or floral ornament separates the beginning and end of the alphabetic inscription. The design celebrates the Armenian script, traditionally attributed to the scholar Mesrop Mashtots.
