Opmerkingen

The 5000-dollar denomination was introduced as the highest value in Guyanese circulation, a response to the country's long-running inflation that had progressively eroded the purchasing power of lower notes. Oberthur Fiduciaire has printed multiple denominations for Guyana over the years, giving the series an unusual consistency of manufacture across what were otherwise turbulent decades for the Guyanese dollar.

Cotton substrate for a note of this denomination is a deliberate durability choice — high-value notes that change hands less frequently than small denominations still need to survive the humid coastal conditions of Georgetown's commercial districts.
