Surrounding the central device, a circular border legend in Arabic occupies the upper arc reading the Twenty-Fifth National Day, with the date 1996 in both Western and Eastern Arabic numerals flanking the left and right sides respectively, and the English legend THE TWENTY FIFTH ANNIVERSARY arranged along the lower arc in raised Latin capitals. |

Issued to mark the UAE's 25th National Day in December 1996, this is among the heaviest gold coins ever produced by the Central Bank — 200 grams of .916 gold is a substantial commission by any standard, placing it firmly in the category of presentation pieces made for institutional gifting and state protocol rather than anything approaching circulation. The series was struck in extremely limited numbers, and few have appeared at public auction.
Sheikh Zayed had been instrumental in negotiating the federal union of the seven emirates in 1971, and the 25th anniversary series represented a deliberate assertion of that founding achievement under his continued leadership.
