Additional information

Issued to mark the ninth summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Belgrade in September 1989 — the second time Yugoslavia had hosted, following the founding conference of 1961 that Tito had helped engineer into existence. By 1989, the movement's political relevance was already eroding, and Yugoslavia itself had less than three years before dissolution. The summit proved to be one of the last major international events the country would host as a unified state.
