The 1955 series marked a deliberate effort by Yugoslav authorities to bring banknote production entirely in-house through ZIN, the state security printing works established in Belgrade in 1929. By the mid-1950s, Yugoslavia was navigating its post-Tito split from the Soviet bloc with studied independence, and reliance on foreign printers had become politically inconvenient. Petrović and Krnjajić were the dominant creative pairing at ZIN through this period, responsible for much of the series' visual coherence.

The 5000 Dinara was the highest denomination in the P#72 series, issued into an economy still managing the inflationary pressures of postwar reconstruction.
