Opmerkingen

Nicaragua's 1988 hyperinflationary spiral was among the most severe in Latin American history — by the time this note was issued, the córdoba had lost virtually all practical value against the dollar. The 5,000 denomination, unimaginable a decade earlier, was effectively small change within months of printing.

The Sandinista government's monetary policies during the Contra war years forced repeated redenomination; this series was itself superseded in 1990 when the new córdoba oro replaced the inflated currency at a rate of one new unit for every five million old ones.
