备注	The Banco Central de Costa Rica was founded in January 1950, making 1999 the institution's fiftieth year. This note was issued specifically to mark that anniversary — a commemorative within a circulating series, which is an unusual choice. Most central banks produce commemorative notes as collector issues only, but the BCCR put this one into general circulation alongside the standard 5000 Colones. Oberthur Fiduciaire in Rennes had been printing Costa Rican notes for some years by this point, and the security specification here is modest — watermark and thread only, without the optical variable devices that were becoming common in high-denomination Latin American notes by the late 1990s.
