Obverse description Central field features the crowned Polish eagle displayed, with wings spread and head turned to the right, rendered in relief against a plain field. The date 1989 is divided on either side of the eagle's lower body, with 19 to the left and 89 to the right. Below the eagle, the denomination ZŁ 500 ZŁ is prominently inscribed in large numerals flanked by the złoty abbreviation. The circular legend POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA (Polish People's Republic) runs along the upper periphery in Latin script. The mint mark MW appears below the eagle.
