This note belongs to the "seria 1944" issue — currency prepared by the communist-backed Polish Committee of National Liberation (PKWN) for use in territories liberated from German occupation. The notes were printed in the Soviet Union, a fact the Polish authorities were careful not to advertise, and introduced alongside the abolition of the London government-in-exile's currency as a deliberate political instrument of the new order.
Counterfeits of the 1944 series were reported almost immediately after release, attributed partly to how rapidly the notes were pushed into circulation before adequate public familiarity could develop.
