Pick 835 is a well-known problem in first series Renminbi collecting. No 500 Yuan note bearing this Pick number was ever officially issued for circulation — what exists under this reference are replicas, produced for educational or display purposes, and the distinction matters enormously. The People's Bank issued the first series RMB between 1948 and 1955, but certain denominations and dates exist only as specimens, proofs, or later facsimiles.
Buyers encounter these regularly misattributed in generalist auctions. The "replica" designation in the catalog name is the operative word here.
