| Obverse description | Printed in rose-red and black on plain paper, the obverse carries a central vignette of a large institutional building with a flagpole, rendered in fine letterpress. The denomination 伍百圓 (500 Yuan) appears in Chinese characters at each corner within decorative frames, with the bank name 西北農民銀行 across the top. Serial number and the Republican calendar date 中民國三十四年 are present, along with two red seal impressions in the lower corners. |

The Farmer's Bank of Northwest China was the currency-issuing arm of the Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region government — the Communist-administered territory centered on Yan'an that functioned as a largely self-contained economy throughout the Sino-Japanese War and into the Civil War period. By 1945, the border region was under severe economic pressure: Nationalist blockades had choked off outside trade, and the regional administration was financing both military operations and a mass production campaign simultaneously. High-denomination notes like this 500 Yuan issue were a direct response to accelerating inflation within the region.
Pick S3300 is among the later wartime emissions before the bank was reorganized following Liberation.
