| Opmerkingen |
The Bank of Shansi, Chahar & Hopei was a Communist-controlled regional bank established in 1938 to serve the Jin-Cha-Ji Border Region — one of the first significant liberated-area financial institutions of the Civil War and wartime resistance periods. By 1946, when this 500 Yuan was issued, the border region economy was under severe inflationary pressure as Nationalist-Communist hostilities resumed in earnest following the Japanese surrender. High-denomination notes like this one were a direct response to that inflation, not a sign of monetary confidence.
The bank's issues from this period are frequently encountered with heavy rural handling — thin spots along fold lines are common in the series. Printing was done regionally under wartime conditions, and registration inconsistencies appear across surviving examples.
