Obverse description Central field features a stylized depiction of Mount Tsukuba rendered as a layered, striated geometric form, evoking both the mountain's silhouette and a modernist design aesthetic. Beneath the mountain motif, a naturalistic spray of cherry blossom flowers in full bloom extends across the lower field, with branching stems and individual blossoms rendered in high relief. The legend 日本国 (State of Japan) is inscribed in kanji around the upper field, and the denomination 五百円 (500 Yen) appears in kanji at the lower portion of the coin. The entire design is surrounded by a border of raised beads.
