| Obverse description | A detailed frontal depiction of the Takamikura, the Imperial Chrysanthemum Throne used during the enthronement ceremony of Emperor Naruhito, occupies the centre of the coin. The throne is rendered with great architectural precision, showing its multi-tiered lacquered dais, ornate canopy adorned with decorative finials, hanging draperies, and flanking ceremonial poles with phoenix-topped standards. The composition is set against a recessed circular field, framing the throne in a manner evoking the solemnity of the Imperial rite. The bimetallic structure is visible at the periphery, with the nickel brass outer ring bordered by a continuous beaded border. No inscriptions appear on the obverse. |

| Reverse description | The sixteen-petalled Imperial Chrysanthemum Seal (kikumon) is prominently displayed in the centre of the inner copper-nickel disc, rendered in high relief with finely detailed petals radiating from a central boss. The seal is encircled by a decorative wreath composed of camellia (tsubaki) branches bearing flowers, buds, and leaves, arranged symmetrically around the central motif. The surrounding nickel brass ring carries the commemorative legend in Japanese characters, reading clockwise from the top: 御即位記念 (Accession to the Throne Commemoration), and along the lower arc: 日本国 • 500円 • 令和元年 (State of Japan • 500 Yen • First Year of Reiwa). A beaded border runs along the inner edge of the outer ring. |
