Aanvullende informatie

Issued as part of Japan's long-running commemorative program for the 1994 National Athletic Meet (Hiroshima Kokutai), this coin was one of several 500-yen pieces produced throughout the 1980s and 1990s to mark the annual prefectural sports competition. Hiroshima's hosting carried particular weight that year — the city was simultaneously preparing for the 1994 Asian Games, the first time Japan had hosted that event since 1958. The two occasions produced a rare overlap of commemorative issues from a single city in a single calendar year.
