Beschrijving voorzijde The centre features a detailed aerial view of Saitama Stadium 2002, the large elliptical football venue, rendered in fine relief. Three football players in dynamic poses are depicted in the field: one at upper left, one at upper right, and one at lower centre, evoking the 2002 FIFA World Cup. The legend 日本国 (State of Japan) arcs across the upper field, flanked by the players, while the Latin inscription SAITAMA and the Japanese characters 埼玉県 appear above the stadium. The denomination 五百円 (500 yen) is inscribed in large characters along the lower portion of the centre, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.

Beschrijving keerzijde The copper-nickel centre depicts a stylised representation of a traditional Japanese cast Mon coin, rendered in high relief with a square hole at its centre and the four kanji characters 地方自治 (local autonomy) arranged around the aperture in the cardinal positions, evoking the aesthetic of Edo-period Kanei Tsuho coinage. The nickel brass ring bears the arc inscription JAPAN 47 PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM along the upper portion, and the denomination 500 YEN together with the Japanese date 平成26年 (Heisei year 26) along the lower portion. A beaded border frames the outer edge of the ring on both sides.
