Reverse description The copper-nickel centre depicts a stylised rendering of an ancient cast Mon coin, featuring a square central hole flanked by kanji characters reading 地方自治 (local autonomy) arranged around it, with a granulated background evoking the texture of old cast coinage. Latent image security features are incorporated into the design. The nickel brass outer ring bears the legend JAPAN 47 PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM along the upper arc, with the denomination 500 YEN at lower left and the date 平成25年 (Year 25 of Heisei) at lower right, all within a beaded border. The coin is the 47th issue (47/60) of the Local Autonomy Commemoration series.
