Obverse description The nickel brass centre features a detailed landscape view of Okayama Kōrakuen, one of Japan's three celebrated gardens, depicting a traditional pavilion at lower left, a tranquil pond at centre, and Okayama Castle rising above wooded hills in the upper right field. The legend 日本国 (State of Japan) is inscribed along the upper rim, with 五百円 (500 yen) divided at the lower left and right. The prefecture name appears in both Latin script (OKAYAMA) and kanji (岡山県) at the lower centre, all enclosed within a beaded border.
