| Obverse description | The centre features a dynamic depiction of armoured samurai riders on horseback, representing the Kacchu Keiba horse race of the Soma Nomaoi Festival, a celebrated traditional event of Fukushima Prefecture. The riders are shown in full gallop, rendered in fine relief against a textured field. The Latin legend FUKUSHIMA appears in the upper centre of the field, accompanied by the kanji inscription 福島県 immediately below.
