Obverse description Central field features a stylized Jomon-period clay figurine (dogu) in dynamic posture occupying the right portion of the design, its heavily ornamented body rendered in fine relief with characteristic goggle-eyed facial features. To the left stands a depiction of the raised-floor pit dwellings of the Sannai-Maruyama archaeological site, rendered with architectural precision. The legend 日 本 国 (State of Japan) arcs along the upper rim, flanked by a beaded border, while AOMORI and 青森県 appear in the lower central field. The denomination 五 百 円 (500 yen) is inscribed along the lower arc within the beaded border.
