Obverse description The State Emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting a hydroelectric dam and power transmission tower set against a mountain landscape, encircled by sheaves of rice tied with a ribbon bearing the national name in Hangul, and surmounted by a five-pointed star radiating rays. The Hangul legend naming the Central Bank of the DPRK runs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '500 WON' and date '1996' appear at the lower field, flanked by stylised laurel sprigs. The silver purity '999' and weight '1 OZ' are inscribed to the left and right of the central emblem respectively.
