| Description du revers | The reverse features a finely detailed quill pen rendered diagonally across the centre of the field, its nib pointing to the lower left and its plume extending to the right, symbolising the Freising Manuscripts — the oldest known documents written in a Slavic language. To the left of the quill, a cursive Glagolitic script inscription is incused into the darkened field, evoking the ancient writing tradition commemorated by this issue. The legend 'BRIZINSKI SPOMENIKI' appears in two lines at the upper right, with 'SKOF ABRAHAM' inscribed below it, and the commemorative dates '994 - 1994' at the lower right, marking the millennium of Bishop Abraham's authorship. |

The Freising Manuscripts, dating to around 1000 AD, are the earliest known written documents in a Slavic vernacular using the Latin alphabet — predating any other continuous Slovenian text by centuries. Bishop Abraham of Freising, a Bavarian diocese with ecclesiastical authority over much of what is now Slovenia, is credited with commissioning or overseeing the manuscripts' production. Slovenia issued this coin in 1994, three years after independence, at a moment when anchoring national identity to medieval cultural patrimony carried obvious political weight — though the manuscripts themselves have lived in Munich's Bayerische Staatsbibliothek since at least the 16th century.
