The Tokai Dukát series was issued by Hajdúnánási Holding Zrt as a regional loyalty or promotional scrip tied to the Tokaj wine district — not a legal tender banknote in any statutory sense, but a privately issued instrument designed to circulate within a defined commercial network. These pieces occupy an awkward taxonomic space: too formally produced to be dismissed as mere vouchers, not recognized by the Magyar Nemzeti Bank in any capacity.
Szepsy István's signature is the detail that earns attention. He is among the most influential winemakers in modern Tokaj, credited with reviving dry furmint as a serious varietal in the 1990s. His presence on a scrip note is unusual by any measure.
