500 Tögrög Year of the Pig

Part of Mongolia's long-running lunar series, this issue marks the Year of the Pig under the traditional twelve-year cycle observed across much of East and Central Asia. Mongolia adopted the animal calendar through centuries of cultural exchange along the steppe corridor, predating the Mongol Empire itself. The series was aimed squarely at the international collector market during the early post-Soviet period, when Mongolia was generating hard currency through numismatic exports rather than domestic circulation.
