Mongolia's lunar series coins from this period were struck by foreign mints — most likely the Tschechische Staatsmünze Dresden or a comparable European facility — under contract, as the Bank of Mongolia has never operated a domestic mint capable of proof production. The gilt variant of KM#229a was issued in smaller quantities than its non-gilt counterpart, though the Bank of Mongolia did not publish separate mintage figures for the two.
