Issued at the turn of the millennium, this piece belongs to a broader Mongolian commemorative program capitalizing on the 2000 anniversary marketing cycle — though Chinggis Khan's birth date remains genuinely disputed among historians, with estimates ranging from 1155 to 1167. The Bank of Mongolia was prolific in this period with small-format gold issues aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation.
