The Cyrillic inscription 'Монгол Банк' (Bank of Mongolia) appears in stylised script beneath the emblem, flanked on either side by vertical Mongolian script characters. Below the cartouche, the denomination '500 ТӨГРӨГ' is inscribed in large characters, with the legend 'MONGOLIA 25gr 925 SILVER' along the lower periphery. Protoceratops andrewsi was named for Roy Chapman Andrews, the American Museum of Natural History explorer whose Central Asiatic Expeditions of the 1920s discovered the species in the Gobi Desert — on Mongolian soil. The fossil beds at Djadokhta Formation yielded not only adult specimens but the first dinosaur eggs ever identified by science, directly attributable to Protoceratops nesting sites. Mongolia's claim to this animal is legitimate and longstanding.
This is one of several issues in Mongolia's early 2000s paleontology series, struck at a moment when the country was actively leveraging its Gobi fossil heritage for international recognition.
