| Beschrijving voorzijde | The national emblem of the Bank of Mongolia occupies the central field, rendered in fine detail. The denomination '500 ТӨГРӨГ' appears in the lower portion of the field, flanked by the inscription 'MONGOLIA' and the silver specification '1 OZ .999 SILVER'. The legends 'MONGOL BANK' and 'MONGOL ULUS' are inscribed in both Latin and traditional Mongolian (folded) script along the sides of the emblem. The overall design is set within a circular border typical of modern Mongolian commemorative coinage. |

Marco Polo's account of Mongolia — recorded in Il Milione after his travels through the Mongol Empire in the 1270s — remains one of the few contemporary European descriptions of Kublai Khan's court at Khanbaliq. Polo described paper money backed by the Khan's authority with obvious astonishment, noting that refusal to accept it was punishable by death. It is a minor irony that Mongolia now issues silver commemoratives in his name.
