The argali (Ovis ammon) is the world's largest wild sheep and holds protected status in Mongolia under the 2012 Law on Fauna, yet trophy hunting licenses have been intermittently sold to foreign nationals — a political contradiction that has drawn sustained criticism from domestic conservation groups.
