| 表面の説明 | The obverse features the state emblem of Mongolia — the soyombo symbol surmounting a stylized arch — centered within an ornate cartouche, above which the Cyrillic inscription 'Монгол Банк' (Bank of Mongolia) is rendered in decorative script. Flanking the cartouche on the left and right are vertical Traditional Mongolian script legends. Below the cartouche, the denomination '500 ТӨГРӨГ' is inscribed in bold characters across the central field. Along the lower rim, the Latin legend 'MONGOLIA 25gr 925 SILVER' identifies the issuer, fineness, and weight. The coin is encircled by a fine dentilated border. |

This coin commemorates the relationship between Khubilai Khan and Marco Polo, whose account in *Il Milione* — dictated while Polo was imprisoned in Genoa after 1298 — became medieval Europe's primary source of knowledge about the Mongol court. Polo served Khubilai in an administrative capacity for roughly seventeen years, a claim historians have debated for over a century given the absence of his name in Chinese imperial records.
Mongolia issued a substantial commemorative program in the early 2000s drawing on Mongol imperial history, this piece among them.
